URA September 2018 Members' Meeting

Date: September 17th, 2018 (Monday) 7:00 PM - 8:30 PM
Venue: Markham PanAm Centre, Community Room 4
Keynote: Focus Session on Arterial Road Widenings

York Region is currently planning to widen several arterial roads in Markham from 4 to 6 lanes, including 16th Avenue, Kennedy Road and McCowan Road. The extra two lanes would be designated for HOV/Transit during rush hours. The plans also improve cycling and pedestrian facilities on these roads. Road widenings are always controversial. URA will be conducting a focus session to learn about all sides of the issue. The session will have the following panellists:

  • Brian Lee - Director of Engineering, City of Markham
  • Lorenzo Mele - Advisor, Healthy Design, Peel Region Health Services
  • Nesta Morris - Resident of Unionville, and knowledgeable about effects of road widenings
  • Brian Titherington - Director, Transportation and Infrastructure Planning, York Region
Come and join us! We have also invited all candidates for Regional Councillor for Markham, and will give each candidate an opportunity to make a 2 minute statement on this important regional issue.
